Jetstar increase services from Melbourne Airport

Dec 10, 2009

Melbourne Airport has today welcomed Jetstar's decision to increase capacity from Melbourne with an additional 35 services per week.

From March next year, Jetstar will offer additional daily services from Melbourne to Newcastle (increasing to three times daily) and to the Gold Coast (increasing to eight times daily). Additionally, an extra three times weekly service will be offered to the Sunshine Coast (bringing the total number to 17 services each week) and daily services will commence on the Melbourne to Townsville route (up from the current three times weekly).

Jetstar also announced earlier this month that services on the Melbourne-Cairns route will double from April next year.

Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff said the airport was delighted with Jetstar's decision to increase services on these popular routes.

"This new capacity is testament to the continued consumer demand for domestic travel to and from Victoria. This is the largest capacity increase of Jetstar services since they launched from Melbourne in 2004 and is fantastic news for passengers, domestic tourism and our economy.

"Our operation continues to grow both domestically and internationally. This month alone we welcomed three new international carriers - V Australia, Qatar Airways and Viva Macau," he said.

Melbourne Airport offers airlines low costs, 24-hour curfew free access and ease of domestic transfer thanks to a single terminal precinct and extensive domestic network.
