Today Melbourne Airport announced the lucky winners of the thirteenth annual 2009 Melbourne Airport Christmas Banner Competition.
The competition is open to local primary and secondary schools, who are invited each year to decorate banners that promote Melbourne, travel and the festive season.
"This year we were thrilled to receive 56 banners from 29 schools in the northern and western regions of Melbourne," said Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff. "Congratulations to our three winning schools: Essendon North Primary, Our Lady's Craigieburn and Taylor's Lakes Primary who will this year share in over $1,000 worth of prizes."
"The banners provide a fantastic welcome to over 65,000 international and domestic travellers each day during the Christmas period - with the finalist's banners hanging in prime position to welcome international visitors in our arrivals hall," he said.
Each of the three finalists wins a product and cash prize donated to their school thanks to Melbourne Airport stores Tax & Duty Free, Airbar and Villa and Hut.
The banners will be on display for the duration of December in both the international check-in and arrivals areas of Terminal 2.
Mr. Woodruff said this Christmas period plans to be a busy one. Last week, Melbourne Airport unveiled a new passenger concourse - the first stage of the Airport's $330m international terminal expansion.
"Additionally, the Airport has also been thrilled to see the launch of three new international airlines in the first two weeks of December," he said.
