Qantas announced today it will be progressively increasing A380 services from Melbourne to London culminating in daily services and to Los Angeles to six services a week by March next year.
Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff warmly welcomed the announcement "this is fantastic news for travellers. In 2008, Melbourne was chosen to launch the Australian base for Qantas' first A380 services to Los Angeles. This was then followed by the introduction of A380 services to London in January this year."
Following consistent demand from business and leisure travellers alike, the A380 services to London were doubled in March and are currently operating twice a week. "The progressive increase of services to London and Los Angeles is a sign of sustained positive growth of these markets" he said.
This latest announcement highlights The Qantas Group's increasing footprint in Melbourne. "Qantas has continued to invest in Victoria and has maintained Melbourne as Jetstar's base, evidence of the strength of our local economy and value as a destination.
"Melbourne Airport's operational advantages such as 24 hour operation, single terminal precinct, being only twenty minutes from the CBD and our consistently low costs and high service levels are key factors in consistent growth of international capacity in and out of our State" Mr Woodruff said.
