Emirates to boost capacity from Melbourne
Emirates to boost capacity from Melbourne
May 25, 2010
Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff said the significant capacity increase was fantastic news for travellers and the economy. "The move to upgrade the fleet on these two routes signify the consistently resilient and growing nature of these two markets.
"The 1400 additional weekly seats between Melbourne and Dubai and near 700 additional weekly seats between Melbourne and Auckland will continue to strengthen the strong tourism and business ties between the two countries" he said.
Other recent positive international announcements for Melbourne Airport have included Air Asia X's announcement to double services from Melbourne in July, Qatar Airways increasing capacity to daily and V Australia commencing services to Johannesburg following the success of Los Angeles and Phuket. Additionally, the domestic market has seen Tiger Airways commence services to Brisbane and Jetstar increasing services to Cairns earlier this year.
"Melbourne Airport really does offer strategic and operational advantages for our airlines. Our lack of curfew means greater scheduling flexibility for our airlines, a single terminal precinct means minimum connection times for passengers and our proximity to the city means that we are only a 20 minute bus ride from the CBD. Our long standing relationship with Emirates is representative of this and we look forward to working with them as they continue to grow into the future."
