Melbourne Airport welcomes Jetstar's announcement that the airline will increase frequency of services between Melbourne Airport and Cairns from two to three flights per day from 4 April next year.
The increased services from Jetstar's home in Melbourne will benefit Victorians with an additional 130,000 seats to and from Cairns per year.
Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff said the announcement was terrific news for Victorian travellers.
"It provides consumers with even greater flexibility on the popular Cairns route at very competitive prices," he said.
"This increased capacity is evidence of the strength of our local economy and builds on our travel and tourism links with Far North Queensland.
"Earlier this year, Jetstar increased services out of Melbourne to Cairns, Newcastle and the Gold Coast. In July, Jetstar commenced services to Brisbane and increased services to the Sunshine Coast and Townsville.
"The announcement follows Jetstar welcoming their 50 millionth passenger at Melbourne in May.
"We look forward to working with Jetstar as they continue to grow the capacity of their services from Melbourne."
