August has seen continued international passenger growth for Melbourne Airport and a
return to growth in the domestic market producing the highest passenger total on record
for the month of August.
 
International passengers grew by 7.2% and domestic passengers grew by 1.4%.
 
"There's no denying that we are still operating in a really tough environment and we
continue to do all we can to keep costs to  our airline customers low and our service
levels high" said Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff.
 
"August results are a tribute to our airlines' commitment to the Melbourne market, the
resilience of Melbourne as a key tourism  and business city and the strength of the
Victorian economy.
 
"I would like to thank all of our airline customers for their  continued support of the
Melbourne market.  We have a number of exciting developments happening soon. On
the international front, Singapore Airlines commence daily A380 operations in
September, China Southern will increase services in October, Qatar Airways begin
services in December, AirAsia X will increase services to 11 per week in December, and
V Australia start services to Los Angeles and Phuket in December, followed by
Johannesburg in March 2010. 
 
"Domestically, Tiger Airways  will be basing a fifth aircraft  here from October as they
increase services to Sydney, and Jetstar will start 5 times daily Sydney services in late
October. 
 
"On top of all of this we continue to invest in Victoria's international aviation capacity with
our $330M international terminal expansion, as well as accelerating other infrastructure
projects to cater for growth" said Mr. Woodruff.
