    UberX at Melbourne Airport

    15 AUGUST 2017 / By Melbourne Airport

From tomorrow Victorian travellers can ride with UberX to and from Melbourne Airport after the Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry Bill was passed through Parliament last week.

UberX will be available to pick-up passengers in approved wait zones just steps away from the terminal.

Melbourne Airport Chief of Parking and Ground Access Lorie Argus said she was delighted to welcome Uber into the airport’s transport mix.

“This announcement is really exciting as we know Uber is a desirable transport option for many of our travellers. Through expanding our transport offering we’re giving our travellers more choice and flexibility,” Mrs Argus said.

“Melbourne Airport has worked closely with Uber to develop the right infrastructure in order to make the service work well for both drivers and travellers.”

“Travellers will be able to access Uber from two approved safe wait zones located inside the airport forecourt and in the T4 Transport Hub.”

“On average 95,000 passengers fly through Melbourne Airport each day and we’re sure the service will be well utilised by holidaymakers and business travellers alike.”

Uber State Manager for Victoria Lucas Groeneveld said he was pleased to offer arriving passengers simple and safe ground connections with the support of Melbourne Airport.

“This is a big win for consumer choice, tourism and the Victorian travelling public,” Mr Groeneveld said.

“We know thousands of Uber riders open the app at Melbourne Airport every week, and we’re now thrilled to offer them safe, reliable and affordable uberX rides at the push of a button.

“Modern travellers like the convenience of using the apps they know and trust when they go abroad or interstate these days, and we see this as a positive move for Victoria’s booming tourism scene.”

According to Uber data, customers from more than 75 different countries have opened the Uber app at Melbourne Airport to look for a ride in 2017.

Taxis will continue to operate from the inner lane of the Melbourne Airport forecourt and the ground floor of the At Terminal T4 Transport Hub. In the year to 30 June more than 2.2 million taxi movements were recorded through the Melbourne Airport forecourt.
