The car parks at Melbourne Airport are busy

The car parks at Melbourne Airport are busy this week The Value Car Park is nearly sold out Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. If you do have a car park booking, please arrive 30 minutes earlier than usual and have your QR code ready for a smooth entry and exit. Due to ongoing construction in the Terminal T1 T2 T3 car park pick-up and drop-off areas, passengers should plan for potential delays of up to an hour during peak times if you are being dropped off by a loved one, taxi or Uber. To avoid congestion, we recommend using the equivalent pick-up and drop-off facilities at nearby Terminal 4 car park, which is a 10-minute walk to and from Terminals 1, 2, and 3. Simply drive to the Terminal 4 Car Park and proceed to Level 2 for drop-offs or Level 1 for pick-ups. Thank you for your patience while we are building your airport.

A new road plus dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones

Melbourne Airport is addressing growing traffic congestion by building an express loop road network, which will separate public traffic from commercial transport operators.

The two-stage project will create a more streamlined exit from the Tullamarine Freeway to all four terminals, meaning travellers will no longer need to navigate roundabouts or traffic lights to access the pick-up and drop-off zones and parking areas.

Potential impact on travellers in 2025

We anticipate that this project will require travellers to add an additional 30 minutes to their travel time.

Information on changes in road conditions such as temporary lane closures and detours can be found here.

Naarm Way Stage 1

Naarm Way Stage 1 was opened on 18 July 2023, providing a direct connection from the Tullamarine Freeway into the T4 ground transport hub.

This stage primarily benefits travellers flying Jetstar, Rex, and Link Airways from Terminal 4, as well as Virgin Australia travellers flying from Terminal 3.

Naarm Way Stage 2

Under construction

Naarm Way Stage 2 will provide a direct connection from the Tullamarine Freeway to new dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones for Terminals 1, 2 and 3 within the T123 car park. New exit ramps from the T123 car park will provide a direct exit to Departure Drive and Melbourne Drive onto the freeway.

A new pedestrian bridge will provide direct passenger access from the T123 parking structure to Terminal 2.

Upon completion of this project, the main terminal forecourt will be reserved for commercial vehicles such as Skybus, taxis, rideshare and shuttle bus services.

These works were approved by the Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government in 2021. The approved Major Development Plan can be found below.
