Overview

Victoria is growing, and so is Melbourne Airport.

We are embarking on a significant program of construction to ensure Melbourne Airport has capacity to serve projected increases in population, exports and imports.

This works program will enhance our airfield, terminals and ground transport system, but we understand it may cause some inconvenience and ask for your understanding as we navigate through this exciting phase.

New International Baggage System

Melbourne Airport is nearing completion of a new world class international baggage system which will transform the way bags are handled at the airport. The $500 million project will support Melbourne Airport’s record international passenger growth while delivering some world class new features for passengers and airlines.

International terminal expansion

We're planning for the future of international travel at Melbourne Airport. With international travel at record highs, we are working closely with airlines to finalise the details of a major international terminal expansion to deliver increased terminal capacity and an enhanced passenger experience.

Third runway to increase capacity

We are building a third runway. This will deliver much-needed aviation infrastructure capacity for Victoria and help support thousands of new jobs.

New Pick Up and Drop Off zones arriving spring 2026

We’re building a more direct road from the Tullamarine Freeway for easier access to all terminals.

New direct road - Naarm Way

We’re building a more direct road (Naarm Way) from the Tullamarine Freeway for easier access to all terminals.

Closer, more convenient locations to access taxi and Uber

We’re making it easier for arriving passengers to access taxis and Ubers, with new and improved pick-up zones being introduced from May 2025.

Better terminals for travellers

We are upgrading our terminals to improve the food and beverage options, baggage systems, rest areas and toilets to help make your trip as smooth as possible.

Better public transport

We are in discussions with Government to deliver better public transport options for Victorians.

Better, faster, smoother trolleys

We've upgraded our trolleys for smoother, quieter and easier journeys across each terminal

Improved sustainability

We are building a bigger on-site solar farm to use and provide energy in a sustainable way.

New hotel close to Terminal 4 (T4)

We have opened a new hotel close to Terminal 4 with accommodation, office and leisure facilities
