What’s changing?

From 13 May 2025:

  1. The Terminal 1 Qantas taxi rank will move 50 metres and will open adjacent to Terminal 1 Qantas domestic arrivals, in the space where Qantas Valet used to be.

From 26 May 2025:

  1. From late May, the re-located Terminal 1 Qantas taxi rank will be joined by a new Uber pick-up zone. This is called a split rank (it will have taxis on one side and Uber on the other).
  2. A new taxi rank will also open outside Terminal 2 international arrivals. The existing Uber zone will remain, and so this will create another split rank.

The new split ranks will mirror the taxi and Uber zone in the Terminal 4 T4 ground transport hub, which provides Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Rex and Link Airways passengers with efficient pick-ups from their choice of ride.

What stays the same:

Accessible bays and entry lanes will remain in place at Terminal 2 for Uber, the added taxi rank at T2 will also feature Accessible Assistance lanes and bays. Similarly, they will also be available in the new Terminal 1 Qantas rank for both taxi and Uber.

The existing taxi and Uber zones at Terminal 4 ground transport hub will remain the same. This hub is an excellent option for both departing and arriving passengers who fly with Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Rex and Link Airways.

Skybus will continue to operate stops outside Terminals 1, 3 and 4.

The Value Car Park free courtesy bus will continue to pick up and drop off outside Terminals 1 and 4.

We are continuing to work with the Australian Federal Police and Transport Safety Victoria to address the small number of dishonest drivers who continue to tout for business in the terminals.

Please note

While we build and move ranks, diversions will be in place for Taxi, Uber and Value Car Park courtesy bus services between 1 am to 4 am from May 12 to May 24, 2025.

Taxi and Uber pick up services will operate from the public pick-up area (Lane 3) during this time. Value Car Park courtesy buses will pick passengers up from Lane 2 during this time.

Please follow signs and staff directions, and allow additional time to reach the alternate pick-up points. Thank you for your patience.

What this will mean for you

  • Having both taxis and Uber available directly outside Terminals 1, 2 and 4 will make it easier for you to access transport no matter who you fly with, or if you arrive on a domestic or international flight
  • A shorter walk from baggage claim to transport
  • Faster access to transport and shorter wait times

Which airline, which rank do you use?

  • Passengers who arrive on Qantas domestic flights can simply turn left inside Terminal 1 and choose either a taxi or Uber to pick them up
  • Passengers who arrive on international flights can simply step outside Terminal 2 and choose between a taxi and Uber.
  • Passengers who arrive on Virgin Australia flights can turn right after exiting Terminal 3 and use the Terminal 4 split taxi and Uber rank (although you're free to use any rank you fancy!)
  • Passengers who arrive on Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Rex and Link Airways can continue to use the Terminal 4 split taxi and Uber rank.

Why are we doing this?

This change is in response to feedback from passengers, staff and drivers. We want to make the arrivals experience as smooth as possible.

You will notice a lot of construction at the front of the airport. This is because we are currently rebuilding the front door to the airport. This will pave the way for expansion of our international terminal.

Our new front door, opening next year, will feature a much larger area for people who would like to drive their own car in to the airport to pick up loved ones. Stay tuned for updates and thank you for your patience while we are building your airport.
