Melbourne Airport Crane Permit

Overview

Obstructions in the vicinity of an airport have the potential to create air safety hazards and to seriously limit the ability for aircraft to arrive and depart the airport.

Melbourne Airport is required under the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations Part 139 Manual of Standards to monitor the Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) and Terminal Instrument Flight Procedure Obstacle Protection (TIFPOP) surfaces associated with Melbourne Airport.

When is a Crane Permit Required?

A crane permit may be required for any operation at height on or in the vicinity of Melbourne Airport. Crane permits are normally issued for a maximum period of 3 months per request, however longer permits (e.g. for the duration of a project) can be approved at the discretion of the Melbourne Airport Airfield Operations team.

Intrusions into Prescribed Airspace

Persons wishing to undertake activities that will result in an intrusion of protected airspace are required to apply to Melbourne Airport for an Airspace Approval. Refer to Airspace Protection.
