The car parks at Melbourne Airport are busy this week. The Value car park is sold out this week, the Terminal 1,2,3 car park is almost sold out and the Terminal 4 car park is selling fast. If you have an existing car park booking, please arrive 30 minutes earlier than usual and have your QR code ready for a smooth entry and exit. Due to ongoing construction in the Terminal 1,2,3 car park pick-up and drop-off areas, passengers should plan for potential delays of up to an hour during peak times if you are being dropped off by a loved one, taxi or Uber. To avoid congestion, we recommend using the equivalent pick-up and drop-off facilities at nearby Terminal 4 car park, which is a 10-minute walk to and from Terminals 1, 2, and 3. Simply drive to the Terminal 4 Car Park and proceed to Level 2 for drop-offs or Level 1 for pick-ups. Thank you for your patience while we are building your airport.

The number of passengers who used Melbourne Airport last financial year was more than double the year before, as an increasing number of Victorians jetted off on holidays, reunited with loved ones or resumed business travel.

A total of 12,936,947 people passed through Melbourne Airport’s four terminals in the 12 months to 30 June, compared to 6,169,823 travellers in the previous financial year.

The number of people heading overseas continues to grow steadily, with 464,926 people passing through the international terminal in June, up 26 per cent on the 367,681-figure recorded in May.

A total of 1,842,335 domestic passengers were recorded in June 2022, less than seven per cent shy of the 1,963,625 domestic passengers who passed through the terminals in June 2019, the last full year before the onset of Covid-19.

Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said that as the industry worked to address short-term issues such as volatile fuel prices and airline staff shortages, the airport would continue to take a long-term view on infrastructure investment.

“As we welcome back more domestic travellers, we are giving our terminals a much-needed upgrade,” she said.

“This week we are proud to open new passenger amenities in Terminal 4, featuring new male and female bathrooms, all-gender toilets, an accessible toilet, an assistance animal relief area and a parents’ room complete with changing tables, microwave and a private feeding room.

“From today, Qantas travellers will notice more construction hoarding as we ramp up our renovation of Terminal 1, which when complete, will be the best domestic terminal in Australia.

“It’s part of our mission to become Australia’s favourite airport destination.

“In the short-term though, we acknowledge the temporary closure of the Terminal 1 food court may inconvenience some passengers, but we hope people will enjoy the range of pop-up food and beverage outlets closer to the gates.”

To help cater for increasing demand, Melbourne Airport is also planning to build a third runway. Subject to federal approval, it is expected to open later in the decade.
