Car parks are busy

ALL car parks are very busy this week, with limited drive-up spots available. Please consider alternative transport options. Please have your QR code ready for a smooth entry and exit. Our roads and car parks may have changed since your last visit. Due to ongoing construction in the T123 car park pick-up and drop-off areas, passengers should plan for potential delays of up to an hour during peak times. Learn about the Naarm Way Stage 2 project to plan ahead: https://www.melbourneairport.com.au/plan-ahead. To avoid congestion, we recommend using the equivalent pick-up and drop-off facilities at nearby Terminal 4 car park, just a short 10-minute walk from Terminals 1, 2, and 3. Simply drive to the Terminal 4 Car Park and proceed to Level 2 for drop-offs or Level 1 for pick-ups. Thank you for your patience.

Domestic flights to and from Melbourne doubled last month compared to October thanks to the reopening of borders with New South Wales, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory.

Restriction free flying saw domestic daily passenger numbers jump from about 1,000 people a day to around 10,000 a day.

In November alone the airport welcomed more passengers than the previous three months combined peaking at 111,600 domestic and international travellers.

Melbourne Airport CEO Lyell Strambi said it was a relief that things were finally moving in the right direction, but warned it was still a far cry from business-as-usual at the airport.

“Last month, tens of thousands of Victorians took advantage of the restart to interstate travel, which had tremendous flow on effects to businesses right around the country. All of the reunions across our airport, and others, were really heart-warming. It was a timely reminder of what our business is all about,” said Mr Strambi.

“November was particularly significant for us with Australia’s busiest air route – Melbourne-Sydney – back up and running, connecting the nation’s two largest populations and economies.

“One of the most pleasing things was to see many people from across our airport community return to work. From security staff to retail, our cafes and transport operators, there is a real sense of joy and hope that the worst of COVID is behind us. We remain very focused of course, on the safety of our guests and the people who come to work right across the airport.”

Mr Strambi flagged December would be busy with all states and territories reopening their borders to Victoria, permitting travel over the festive season.

“Australians have displayed strong confidence in air travel. November volumes were ahead of our expectations and it is a great relief to be up and running again ahead of our busy holiday period.”
