What has changed?
All of the Melbourne Airport taxi and Ubers ranks are now split ranks, meaning they have both options in the same spot.
This means:
- Accessing taxis and Ubers will be easier whether you are flying on a domestic or international flight.
- All the ranks are now closer to the baggage carousels.
- More transport options, meaning shorter wait times.
The Terminal 1 split rank is opposite the Qantas domestic arrivals.
The Terminal 2 split rank is outside international arrivals. It now includes both taxi and Uber options.
The Terminal 4 split rank is still the same on the ground level of T4. This rank is for Jetstar, Virgin, Rex and Link passengers.
All split ranks have accessible bays and entry lanes for both taxi and Uber.
Make sure you don’t accept rides from anyone outside of these split ranks. We are working with the Australian Federal Police and Transport Safety Victoria to stop this problem called touting
Other pick-up options
The Skybus will stay the same, stopping outside Terminal 1 and 4.
The Value carpark courtesy bus will stay the same, stopping outside Terminal 1 and 4
What's staying the same?
- Accessible bays and entry lanes will remain in place at Terminal 2 for Uber, the added taxi rank at T2 will also feature Accessible Assistance lanes and bays. Similarly, they will also be available in the new Terminal 1 Qantas rank for both taxi and Uber.
- The existing taxi and Uber zones at Terminal 4 ground transport hub will remain the same. This hub is an excellent option for both departing and arriving passengers who fly with Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Rex and Link Airways.
- Skybus will continue to operate stops outside Terminals 1, 3 and 4.
- The Value Car Park free courtesy bus will continue to pick up and drop off outside Terminals 1 and 4.
- We are continuing to work with the Australian Federal Police and Transport Safety Victoria to address the small number of dishonest drivers who continue to tout for business in the terminals.
Please note
While we build and move ranks, diversions will be in place for Taxi, Uber and Value Car Park courtesy bus services between 1 am to 4 am from May 12 to May 24, 2025.
Taxi and Uber pick up services will operate from the public pick-up area (Lane 3) during this time. Value Car Park courtesy buses will pick passengers up from Lane 2 during this time.
Please follow signs and staff directions, and allow additional time to reach the alternate pick-up points. Thank you for your patience.
What this means for you
- Having both taxis and Uber available directly outside Terminals 1, 2 and 4 will make it easier for you to access transport no matter who you fly with, or if you arrive on a domestic or international flight
- A shorter walk from baggage claim to transport
- Faster access to transport and shorter wait times
Which airline, which rank should you use?
- If you are flying domestic with Qantas, turn left outside Terminal 1 and choose taxi or Uber.
- If you are flying on an international flight, move directly outside Terminal 2 and choose taxi or Uber.
- If you are flying domestic with Virgin, turn right outside Terminal 3 and use the Terminal 4 ground floor split rank. Or the Terminal 2 split rank.
- If you are flying with Jetstar, Rex or Link turn right outside Terminal 4 and use the ground floor split rank.
Why did things changes?
This change is in response to feedback from passengers, staff and drivers. We want to make the arrivals experience as smooth as possible.
You might notice a lot of construction at the front of the airport. This is because we are rebuilding the front door to the airport. This is part of expanding Terminal 2, the international terminal.
Our new front door will be ready next year and will feature a larger area for people who want to drive their own car to the airport to pick up family and friends.
