Travelling over the Easter school holidays? The car parks at Melbourne Airport are very busy.

We advise you to book online as soon as possible as there are limited drive-up spots left. When you arrive, please come early to allow plenty of time to find a car park. If you do book online please have your QR Code ready to use at the car park entrance and exit. If you can, consider alternative transport options this weekend.

  • Trolley – You can borrow a trolley for a small fee from inside the terminal to help you with your luggage.

  • If you have another flight – If you’re transiting in Melbourne, you might need to change terminals depending on whether your next flight is international or domestic. You will need to confirm with your airline as to whether you need to collect your luggage before your next flight. For any questions about transiting, ask any of the friendly staff around the airport or look at the terminal maps.

  • Lost property – All lost property enquiries must be made online using the form found here, in the first instance.

Consider how you’re going to leave the airport. There are transportation options to suit all budgets.

  • Airport terminals – While all terminals are in one building at the airport, keep in mind that it can be a long walk between terminals.
  • Accessibility – For those requiring a wheelchair, you can hire one free of charge from the Travellers’ Information Service prior to your arrival. Most airlines can provide one without any notice. More information.

  • Carry on luggage – Some items cannot be taken in your carry on luggage. All firearms and dangerous goods must be declared to security. See here for a full list.
  • Distance to gates – As the gates in T4 are slightly further away from security than the other terminals, you might like to leave a bit of extra time to get to your gate before your flight.
  • Terminal 4 differences – T4 works differently to most airport terminals. Once you pass through security, you'll need to wait in the departures lounge before moving to your gate. Keep an eye on the screens in the lounge to find out when your gate opens.
  • Lost property – If you've lost something within T4 or at the security checkpoints, you will need to complete the online form found here. If you've lost something on a Jetstar, Rex Airlines or AirNorth flight, or on a carousel, you can contact your airline directly.
  • Wi-Fi – Complimentary Wi-Fi is available at the airport in the terminals and the car parks.
  • Trolley – You can borrow a Smartcarte trolley for a small fee from outside the terminal to help you with your luggage when you arrive.
  • Smoking – Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the terminals, so keep in mind that your last opportunity to do so is before arriving.

Consider how you’re going to get to the airport. There are plenty of options to suit all travellers.

  • SkyBus – The SkyBus operates three services 24/7 from Melbourne City, St Kilda or Frankston and will transfer you express to the airport. From the city, this journey takes 30–45 minutes. T4 is the first stop when the bus reaches the airport.

Have all of your things ready for check in so dropping off your bags and collecting your boarding pass is a simple process.

  • Where to check in – Those flying domestically with Jetstar, Rex Airlines or AirNorth can check in on the ground floor of T4. This is also the point where you can drop off your bags. See map.
  • Bag wrapping – Secure Travel is located on the first floor of T2 and can help wrap your bags for protection at a small cost.
  • Storage services – Smartcarte is located on the ground floor of T2 and can store your bags for a small cost. You can also find Smartcarte lockers on the ground floor of the At Terminal T4 Car Park.
  • If you miss your check in – Sometimes these things happen. If you miss your check in time, you can speak to your airline about possible options, head to the airline service desk located at check in or book another flight with Flight Centre on the first floor of T2.

This is your opportunity to relax before taking off.

  • Check your flight status – After you’ve been through security, check the status of your flight on the screens located in the departures lounge. Here you’ll find your gate number and departure time. Gates will only be displayed approximately 30 minutes before your flight, so fill in the time browsing the shops or at one of the fantastic restaurants while you wait.

  • Head to the gate – Make sure you leave plenty of time to get to your gate before boarding. Happy flying!

You don’t have to say goodbye to your loved ones just yet. In the domestic terminals, anyone can go through security to wait at the gate with you – they'll just have to follow the same procedures as passengers.

  • Where to go – Security is located on the first floor of the terminal, so you’ll need to head up a level once you’ve dropped your bags off, as you cannot take checked baggage through this point. You can also access T4 from T3. See map.
  • Speed up the process – As this area can get quite busy, it will make things easier for everyone involved if you move through security as quickly as possible. It’s a good idea to put your phone away so as not to be distracted. Collect your items promptly once they’ve been scanned and continue on your way.
  • Random explosives tests – Be aware that you might be asked to do a random explosives test as you pass through security.
