Overview

Dropping a mate off at Terminal 1, 2 or 3, or heading in to collect them? At Melbourne Airport, the Pick Up and Drop Off zones for those three terminals are moving into the new T123 Transport Hub. Take Exit 19 Naarm Way off the Tullamarine Freeway, then head for Level 3 if you’re dropping off or the rear of Level 2 if you’re picking up.

One thing worth clearing up first, as it’s an easy mix-up. All of this is about the Pick Up and Drop Off only. Parking the car to catch your own flight is a different trip. If that’s what you’re driving in for, your normal route remains the same.

What’s the route to the T123 Transport Hub from the Tullamarine Freeway?

Take Exit 19 Naarm Way, a three-lane express ramp running straight off the Tullamarine Freeway into the T123 Transport Hub. It’s an elevated road and is part of Melbourne Airport’s Naarm Way project.

Naarm Way is the road you’re exiting onto. It also comes up earlier than you might expect, well before the old Terminal Drive run in. Miss it out of habit, and you’ll end up on the car park route instead.

Coming from Sunbury Road? You’ll reach the hub via Centre Road, then the Naarm Way ramp. The route Melbourne Airport currently points Sunbury Road drivers towards is via Francis Briggs Road, through to the Airport Drive on-ramp.

Where do you go to drop someone off at the T123 Transport Hub?

From 6 October 2026, Drop Off for Terminals 1, 2 and 3 happens on Level 3 of the T123 Transport Hub. It’s free and signposted the whole way in, and gives you three lanes, six rows to park in and 74 spaces, more than the current Drop Off area has today.

Whatever you’re coming to the airport in, whether it’s your own car, a taxi or an Uber, the Drop Off for Terminal 1, 2 and 3 is all on Level 3. Standing time is 1 minute. If that’s too tight, park up instead. The T123 Terminal Car Park gives drive-up customers 15 minutes of free parking.

Where do you go to pick someone up at the T123 Transport Hub?

From 6 October, Pick Up for Terminal 1, 2 and 3 passengers happens at the rear of Level 2 of the T123 Transport Hub, free to use and with 115 spaces to wait in.

Where you head depends on how your passenger is being collected:

  • In your own car? Head to the rear of Level 2.
  • By taxi, Uber or Skybus? Pick Up stays at the ground-level airport forecourt instead, not Level 2.

Arrived early? Flights land ahead of schedule often enough. Don’t circle the hub, and don’t stop along the freeway to wait it out. Head to the free Wait Zone on Mercer Drive instead, about a 5-minute drive from the Pick Up zones, with the first 60 minutes free.

How do you get to the terminals from the T123 Transport Hub?

You get to the terminals on foot, following the signage inside the T123 Transport Hub that points to all three terminals. If you’re dropping off someone headed to the international terminal, a 19-metre-wide pedestrian bridge takes them from the T123 Transport Hub straight into Terminal 2.

  • Terminal 1 serves Qantas domestic flights.
  • Terminal 2 is the international terminal.
  • Terminal 3 serves Virgin Australia domestic flights.

The walk to Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 runs a little longer depending on where you end up in the hub, but the signage gets you there. There will also be people posted throughout to help while the layout is new to everyone. Just look for volunteers wearing pink jackets.

If the person you’re dropping off or picking up needs a hand with that walk, the free Melbourne Airport Assist service can help. Run in partnership with Travellers Aid, it helps travellers moving between the car parks, the terminals and the Pick Up and Drop Off zones, seven days a week from 6 AM to 10 PM. When the T123 Transport opens on 6 October, that service will start operating 22 hours a day (from 3am to 1am).

Buggies also run transfers at the T4 Transport Hub for Terminal 4 passengers flying Jetstar, Rex or Link Airways.

How do you exit the T123 Transport Hub after drop off?

To exit the T123 Transport Hub, the new exit ramps take you off Level 3 straight onto Departures Drive and Melbourne Drive. This takes you back onto the Tullamarine Freeway.

There’s no retracing your way in through the terminal roads. You leave by a different route from the one you arrived on, and it puts you back on the freeway directly.

Sort your route before you drive in

Ask which terminal your passenger is flying from before you leave the house. For Terminal 1, 2 or 3, head for the T123 Transport Hub. Pull into Level 3 for Drop Off or the rear of Level 2 for Pick Up. Flying Jetstar, Link Airways or Rex out of Terminal 4? Take the same Exit 19 Naarm Way and head to the T4 Transport Hub instead.
