Travelling over the Easter school holidays? The car parks at Melbourne Airport are very busy.

We advise you to book online as soon as possible as there are limited drive-up spots left. When you arrive, please come early to allow plenty of time to find a car park. If you do book online please have your QR Code ready to use at the car park entrance and exit. If you can, consider alternative transport options this weekend.

Have all of your things ready for check in so dropping off your bags and collecting your boarding pass is a simple process.

  • Where to check in – Those flying domestically with Virgin can check in on the first floor of T3. Occasionally, Virgin flights leave from T4, so you'll need to make your way over after you've dropped off your bags. See map.
  • Bag wrapping – Secure Travel is located on the first floor of T2 and can help wrap your bags for protection at a small cost.
  • Storage services – SmartCarte is located on the ground floor of T2 and can store your bags for a small cost.
  • If you miss your check in – Sometimes these things happen. If you miss your check in time, you can speak to your airline about possible options, head to the airline service desk located at check in or book another flight with Flight Centre on the first floor of T2.

You don’t have to say goodbye to your loved ones just yet. In the domestic terminals, anyone can go through security to wait at the gate with you – they'll just have to follow the same procedures as passengers.

  • Where to go – Security is located on the mezzanine floor of the terminal, so you’ll need to down a level once you’ve dropped your bags off, as you cannot take checked baggage through this point. Those flying out of T3 will leave from gates 1–10 and those flying out of T4 will leave from gates 11 and beyond. See maps.
  • Speed up the process – As this area can get quite busy, it will make things easier for everyone involved if you move through security as quickly as possible. It’s a good idea to put your phone away so as not to be distracted. Collect your items promptly once they’ve been scanned and continue on your way.
  • Random explosives tests – Be aware that you might be asked to do a random explosives test as you pass through security.

This is your opportunity to relax before taking off.

  • Check your flight status – After you’ve been through security, check the status of your flight on the screens located around the terminal. Here you’ll find your gate number and departure time.
  • Shopping and food – Indulge in some shopping or have a bite to eat before take off. Explore what's on offer.
  • Lounges – If you’d rather sit back before your flight, eligible travellers can head to the Virgin Lounge located on the mezzanine level.
  • Amenities – Plenty of toilets and drinking water are located in this part of the airport. See map.
  • Prepare for the plane – Certain items that can be bought after security cannot be taken on the plane, including hot drinks.
  • If you require help – In case of an emergency, you can speak to your closest airline staff or a volunteer and they will be able to assist you.
  • Head to the gate – Make sure you leave plenty of time to get to your gate before boarding. Happy flying!
