Overview

Got a European summer trip on the cards? Whether you're counting down the days or still in the thick of planning, now is the time to think about airport parking. Between June and August, Melbourne Airport sees close to a million international passengers a month. It's one of the busiest periods of the year to fly out, but sorting your parking early means you'll have more choice and a lower rate locked in well before the rush.

As the gateway connecting Victoria to the rest of the world, Melbourne Airport has onsite parking options for all kinds of trips and travellers. Flying solo, heading off as a couple, or taking the whole family along for the adventure? Whatever your trip looks like, there's an option here that fits.

Why Park Onsite at Melbourne Airport for Your Europe Summer Trip?

Parking onsite at Melbourne Airport makes sense for a Euro summer trip because all our car parks have direct access off the Tullamarine Freeway. You drive in, park, and walk or take the free bus straight to Melbourne Airport Terminal 2, where all international flights depart. When you land back in, the drive home starts from the same spot.

Here is why onsite parking works so well for a long international trip:

  • Every onsite car park is either a short walk or a free bus ride from check-in at Terminal 2. Either way, you're within the airport precinct from the moment you arrive.
  • The drive in and out is direct off the Tullamarine Freeway. Once you exit the freeway, it's a straightforward drive into the precinct and straight to your airport car park.
  • Melbourne Airport operates 24/7. So whether your international flight departs early at dawn or late at night, there's a parking option here to match your schedule.
  • Our parking options cover a range of budgets. From value options for long stays to premium parking that puts you steps from the terminal, there's onsite parking at Melbourne Airport to suit your Euro trip.
  • All our car parks have Accessible parking facilities, with bays positioned as close as possible to terminal entrances, lifts and bus stops. If you or someone in your group has specific accessibility needs, check out our Online Mobility Hub for everything you need to plan your visit to Melbourne Airport.

Which Melbourne Airport Parking Option Suits International Trips?

For international trips, the best Melbourne Airport parking option depends on two things: how long you're away and how close you want to be to Terminal 2. We have several onsite parking options, from open-air budget parking to valet parking right at the terminal.

  • Value Car Park: As Melbourne Airport's most affordable onsite parking option, this open-air car park makes the most sense for a longer trip overseas. It's easy to reach from Mercer Drive or Airport Drive, and a free 24/7 bus service runs every 15 minutes to the terminals. The bus stops near Terminal 1 and Terminal 4. Since you're flying from Terminal 2, hop off at the Terminal 1 stop. It's also the stop for those flying domestically with Qantas and Virgin Australia. The Terminal 4 stop is more suited for domestic flights with Jetstar, Rex, Link Airways or Virgin Australia.
  • Value Express: If you want the affordability of the Value Car Park without the hunt for a bay, this option is worth considering. It's a seasonal valet-style service within the Value Car Park, available during peak travel periods. Just drive to Bus Stop B, hand your keys to our friendly team and hop on the next bus to the terminal. When you land back in Melbourne, your car will be ready and waiting. You can pre-book Value Express online or upgrade on arrival, subject to availability.
  • Terminal Car Parks: There are two locations, both close to the terminals they serve and offering a mix of open-air and undercover parking spaces. For a European trip from Terminal 2, the T123 Terminal Car Park connects directly to Terminals 1, 2 and 3 via a covered link bridge. It’s the best car park for international flights, as well as those flying Qantas from Terminal 1 or Virgin Australia from Terminal 3. If you don’t mind a short walk, the T4 Terminal Car Park, located just 100 metres from Terminal 4, is also a good option.
  • Premium Car Parks: Want prime spots? These are the closest self-parking bays to the terminal entrances, located on Level 1 of both the T123 and T4 Car Parks. For international departures, the T123 Premium Car Park puts you within walking distance of Terminal 2. The best part? Every parking bay here is fully undercover, so you and your car stay protected from the elements on both ends of your trip.
  • Melbourne Airport Valet: Want to hand the parking over entirely? Drive to Level 1 of the T123 Car Park, leave your keys with our friendly team and walk straight to check-in. No circling for a bay or lugging bags across the car park. Our team is there 24/7, and the service is open to all travellers, no matter which terminal you're flying from. Heading off for a few weeks? You can also add an optional car clean while you're away, so you come home to a freshly cleaned car after your Euro trip.
  • Qantas Valet: Just drive to Level 1 of the T123 Car Park, hand your keys to the valet team and walk straight to check-in. It's closest to the Terminal 1 entrance, but it’s open to all travellers, domestic or international. And if you want to come home to a freshly cleaned car after your trip, you can arrange an optional car clean while you're away.

Do You Need to Pre-Book Parking at Melbourne Airport?

You don’t need to, but booking parking online ahead of your Euro trip means you get the best rates, faster car park entry and exit, and built-in flexibility that makes the whole Melbourne Airport parking experience smoother.

Here's what you get when you pre-book parking:

  • You'll get better rates than drive-up. Pricing varies depending on which car park you choose and how far in advance you book. But online booking always gives you a better rate than tapping your credit card at the entry gate on the day.
  • You'll get a QR code sent straight to your confirmation email. Just scan the QR code at the boom gate on the way in and again on the way out. Easy.
  • You'll get a grace period built into your booking. For a Euro summer trip, your booking will certainly be over 4 hours, which means you get a 2-hour buffer on either side of your booked window. Arrive a little early or get back a little later than planned, and you won't pay anything extra.
  • You can add the Overstay Guarantee at the time of booking. International flights are more prone to delays and cancellations than domestic ones, which makes this add-on worth considering. It covers overstay charges if your return is delayed due to a flight cancellation where no replacement was offered, a government-mandated border closure, or illness preventing you from flying home. Approved refunds are processed within 14 working days.
  • You can update your booking at any time via My Bookings. Need to change your arrival time? Head to the My Bookings page to update your booking online up to 2 hours before your booked entry time. Already parked and need more time? Extend your stay through the same page anytime before your booked exit.

When Is the Best Time to Book Melbourne Airport International Parking?

The best time to book Melbourne Airport international parking is as early as you’ve locked in your flight. You can pre-book parking up to 12 months before your trip, and the earlier you do, the better the parking rate you'll lock in.

June, July and August are peak months for international departures, with the winter school holidays and the European summer often overlapping. About a million travellers fly in and out of Melbourne Airport each month during this window, which means parking fills up faster than most people expect. If you pre-book now, you’ll tick airport parking off your list and get more choice across all onsite parking options.
