Overview
Driving in and needing disabled parking? If you or someone you’re travelling with has accessibility needs, you want the practical details settled before travel day, not during it. At Melbourne Airport, you can book onsite Accessible Parking up to 12 months in advance.
The T123 Accessible Car Park is a dedicated section on Level 2 of the T123 Car Park, open to those with a valid Australian Disability Parking Permit who pre-book online. It has fully undercover, self-parking bays with a pedestrian bridge that connects to Terminals 1, 2 and 3. T123 Terminal Car Park rates apply, with no extra charge.
What is Melbourne Airport’s T123 Accessible Car Park?
Melbourne Airport’s T123 Accessible Car Park is a bookable Accessible Parking area on Level 2 of the T123 Car Park. It holds 71 fully undercover bays that meet the AS/NZS 2890.6:2009 wheelchair accessibility standard. The covered pedestrian bridges connect it to Terminals 1, 2 and 3, which covers Qantas domestic at Terminal 1, international flights at Terminal 2 and Virgin Australia at Terminal 3.
- Each bay is 2.4 metres wide and 5.4 metres long, set on a level, firm surface, with 2.3 metres of clearance overhead.
- Between every pair of bays sits a shared zone measuring 2.4 by 5.0 metres, so there’s room to transfer in or out of a wheelchair from the side of the vehicle rather than the rear.
- You’ll spot the shared zones by their diagonal yellow lines and each bay by the white international access symbol on a blue background.
- The entrance has a height clearance of 2.2 metres.
Note that you’re booking access to the T123 Accessible Car Park rather than one particular bay. That means once you’re inside, you can take whichever bay is free. The lifts through the T123 Car Park have wide doors, controls set at wheelchair height and Braille panels, so moving between levels works the same way whichever bay you end up in.
Who can use the T123 Accessible Car Park?
Travellers with a valid Australian Disability Parking Permit who have booked online can use the T123 Accessible Car Park. Your permit needs to be on display the entire time you’re parked, with the permit number, expiry date and QR code clearly visible through the windscreen.
It doesn’t matter which state or territory issued your Australian Disability Parking Permit. If you’re taking the original with you, a clear photocopy left on the dashboard is accepted in its place.
Here to assist someone who holds a Companion Card? There's money back in it for you. A full parking fee refund is available when you park for two hours or less in any of our Terminal Car Parks while your passenger is arriving or departing on a flight.
Hold onto your receipt, then lodge the request through our Parking Refunds page with a copy of the Companion Card attached. Refunds are processed within 8 to 9 business days.
What does bookable Accessible Parking mean for your next trip?
A bookable Accessible Parking option means you can plan that part of the trip the same way you sort everything else, in advance and from the comfort of home. For many travellers with accessibility needs, it leaves more of the travel day for the parts you’re actually looking forward to.
- You can plan your whole arrival around a known location.
- You can work out when to leave and how much time to allow.
- You can share the details with whoever is driving you in.
- You can book it 12 months out, at the same time as your flights.
- You can compare it against other parking options across Melbourne Airport car parks.
How much does it cost to park in the T123 Accessible Car Park?
The T123 Accessible Car Park is charged at T123 Terminal Car Park rates, with nothing added for the Accessible bays. The parking rate you pay depends on how long you stay, how far ahead you book and the time of year. Because this car park is pre-book only, that rate is locked in the moment you book.
Booking parking online locks in the online rate at the time you book, rather than the drive-up rates charged at the boom gate.
- There are no booking fees or card fees, so the total at checkout is the total you pay.
- Every booking has a grace period built in at no extra cost. That’s 2 hours either side of your booked times on stays over 4 hours, and 1 hour either side on shorter ones.
- You can amend or cancel free of charge up to 2 hours before your entry time on the My Bookings page or extend your stay there if the trip runs long.
- You can add the Overstay Guarantee at booking. It covers overstay charges if an airline cancels without a replacement flight, a border closes or illness stops you from flying back.
If you book online, you get a confirmation email with a QR code that works as your key both ways. Remember to scan the QR code at the boom gate rather than tapping a card so the system doesn’t read you as a drive-up customer.
Where else can you find Accessible Parking at Melbourne Airport?
Aside from the 71 spots in the T123 Accessible Car Park, there are plenty more ‘first-come, first-in’ Accessible Parking bays in every onsite car park at Melbourne Airport.
- The Terminal Car Parks hold 57 between them. That’s 17 bays in the T123 Terminal Car Park and 40 bays in the T4 Terminal Car Park for those flying Jetstar, Rex, Link Airways and some Virgin Australia flights from Terminal 4.
- The Premium Car Parks are the closest bays you can self-park in, and they’re fully undercover. The T123 Premium Car Park has 4 Accessible Parking bays, while the T4 Premium Car Park has 2 nearest to the terminal entrance.
- In the Value Car Parks, there are 89 Accessible Parking bays in the Value North Car Park, closest to Bus Shelter A. The Value South Car Park has 18, closest to Bus Shelter J. Both open-air car parks have a free wheelchair-friendly bus to the terminals every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day.
Rather not park the car yourself? You can book Melbourne Airport Valet or Qantas Valet. Both valet parking services are located in the T123 Car Park. Just pull up, hand our team the keys and walk to check-in.
