Overview
Got a flight coming soon? If you’re driving in and parking your car, it’s natural to have a few questions. Which car park is closest? How early should you book parking? What actually happens when you drive in? A little bit of planning now can go a long way in shaping your entire Melbourne Airport parking experience.
To make things easier, Melbourne Airport has a range of onsite parking options to suit all kinds of travel plans, from short weekend getaways to longer holidays overseas. Whether you’re parking for the first time or coming back to a familiar routine, knowing what’s available and how it all works can help you choose the option that fits best.
How Does Parking at Melbourne Airport Work?
Parking at Melbourne Airport is designed to make your parking experience simple. You just book online, drive in, scan your QR code at the entry gate and park. Here’s how that looks step by step:
- Start by booking online for better parking rates than drive-up pricing. The earlier you book, the more you may save.
- On the day, use Google Maps or our airport car park maps to head to your selected parking facility.
- At the boom gate, scan the Parking QR code from your confirmation email.
- Park your car or have our friendly staff park it for you if you opted for valet parking, and then make your way to check-in. Each car park offers easy access to the terminals, either by foot or a short bus ride.
- When you return, drive to the exit and scan your Parking QR code again.
If your return flight is delayed due to an airline cancellation, border closure or illness, the Overstay Guarantee, available when booking parking online, can help cover extra charges. It’s there for added peace of mind, just in case your plans change unexpectedly.
Where To Park at Melbourne Airport
Parking at Melbourne Airport for the first time? All car parks are located onsite, with a mix of options based on how close you want to be to the airport terminals and what kind of service you’re after.
Here's a quick look at what's available and where to find them:
- Value Car Park: For longer trips on a budget, this open-air car park is easy to reach from Mercer Drive or Airport Drive and includes a free bus service running every 15 minutes, 24/7. The bus stops near Terminal 1 and Terminal 4, just a short walk to the terminals. The bus stop near Terminal 1 is the most convenient for Qantas domestic flights from Terminal 1 and international flights from Terminal 2. For all other domestic flights from Terminal 3 or 4 (Jetstar, Rex, Link Airways and Virgin Australia), the best stop is the one near Terminal 4.
Travelling during peak times like school holidays? You can book Value Express online or on arrival (subject to availability). It’s a seasonal valet-style service in the Value Car Park where you drop your car near Bus Stop B, hop on the next bus, and we’ll park your car for you. - Terminal Car Parks: Want to park within walking distance of the terminals? The Terminal Car Parks are the closest options. There are two onsite locations, both a short walk to check-in, suitable for short-term parking and long-term parking, plus open-air and undercover parking spaces. Flying with Qantas, Virgin Australia or heading to the international terminal? The T123 Car Park connects to Terminal 1, 2 and 3 via a covered link bridge. If you're flying from Terminal 4 or from Terminal 3, the T4 Car Park is just 100 metres from the entrance, making it a simple option for travellers flying with Jetstar, Rex, Link Airways or Virgin Australia.
- Premium Car Parks: Whether you’re after speed, convenience or both, this is the fastest way to start and end your trip on your own terms. These prime self-park bays are located on Level 1 of both the T123 and T4 Car Parks, making them a practical choice if you're flying early, travelling with kids or carrying extra luggage. Every bay is fully undercover, which also makes it a comfortable pick in hot or wet weather.
- Melbourne Airport Valet: If you’d rather skip finding a bay, this valet parking option makes the handover quick and easy. Just drive to Level 1 of the T123 Car Park, hand over your keys, and walk straight into the terminal. No need to carry bags far or remember where you parked. It’s a smooth option if you're flying early, travelling with kids or arriving during a busy period. You can also ask about optional car cleaning if you'd like to come back to a freshly cleaned car.
- Qantas Valet: Flying with Qantas domestic? This valet service puts you right next to Terminal 1, with handover bays on Level 1 of the T123 Car Park. Just drive in, hand over your keys and walk straight to check-in. No need to look for a bay or book ahead. It’s open to all travellers, but if you’re a Qantas Frequent Flyer, you can earn points each time you park here. You can also request car cleaning, so it’s freshly done by the time you return.
Need accessible parking? No matter which option you choose, all Melbourne Airport car parks include accessible parking bays for travellers with a valid Disability Parking Permit. These bays are positioned close to terminal entrances, lifts or bus stops to help make access easier on the day.
How Far in Advance Should I Book Airport Parking?
You can book parking online up to 12 months in advance. Whether you're planning a quick trip or locking in dates for a holiday later in the year, booking early gives you more options and may save you more.
To book now, just head to the Melbourne Airport Parking page and follow these steps:
Step 1: Choose your entry and exit dates, your terminal, and add a promo code if you have one.
Step 2: Pick the parking option that suits your trip. Add extras like the Overstay Guarantee.
Step 3: Pay using a credit card, debit card or digital wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Step 4: Check your email for your booking confirmation and QR code for car park entry and exit.
What If I Arrive Early or Late?
All online bookings come with a built-in grace period, so there’s a bit of flexibility if your plans shift slightly. For bookings under four hours, you’ve got one hour either side of your entry and exit time. For longer stays, the buffer extends to two hours each way.
With ongoing roadworks around Tullamarine, it’s worth allowing an extra 60 minutes of travel time to reach the airport, especially during peak periods.
If you're just doing a quick airport run, there are dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones outside each terminal. You can also use the Wait Zone, which offers up to 60 minutes of free parking while you wait for your passenger to arrive.
Can I Extend My Airport Parking?
Yes. If your plans change, you can update your parking booking online. Through My Bookings, you can modify your entry time up to two hours before you arrive. Already parked and running late for your return? You can extend your exit time online at any time during your stay.
